Experience the mysteries of the Inca civilization.Visit the ancient ruins. Ride by horseback, raft on the river, trek parts of the Inca trail, visit markets, participate in an ancient ceremony and stay in comfortable inns. Later, visit the Tambopata Research Station for insight into the preservation of this incredible area of Amazon rainforest. Finally, a visit to the capitol, Lima, will allow us to appreciate the diversity of this beautiful country. Participants should be in good health and able to tolerate trekking, rafting & riding at high altitudes (12,000 ft.). MAY 28-SUNDAY LIMA Arrive in Lima and be greeted and transferred to hotel for overnight stay. MAY 29-MONDAY LIMA-CUSCO This morning fly to Cusco where we will be transferred to our hotel. After some time relaxing and acclimating, we'll meet in the afternoon for a walking tour of Cusco . o/n hotel B MAY 30-TUESDAY CUSCO-URUBAMBA VALLEY-PISAC Today, rafting in the Urubamba Valley and a visit to some of the markets & ruins. o/n inn B/L/D MAY 31-WEDNESDAY URUBAMBA VALLEY-OLLANTAYTAMBO A full day hiking, visiting ruins and an evening visit with one of the local shaman. o/n inn B/L/D JUNE 1-THURSDAY URUBAMBA VALLEY-CHINCHEROS-MARAS-MORAY Another full day trekking and visiting with weavers. Return to our inn for the evening. o/n inn B/L/D JUNE 2-FRIDAY OLLANTAYTAMBO-MACHU PICCHU By train to our trailhead. Trek along the ancient Inca trail to Machu Picchu. Explore the ruins, Hotel in the nearby village of Agua Caliente for the night. o/n hotel B/L/D JUNE 3-SATURDAY MACHU PICCHU-CUSCO Today we'll return to the ruins of Machu Picchu for a guided tour . In mid-afternoon, we'll board our train for the return to Cusco. o/n hotel B/L JUNE 4-SUNDAY CUSCO We'll board horses for a ride into the countryside and a chance to explore the sites of the nearby ruins and have a typical Peruvian lunch. Rest of the day is free. Tonight , dinner & folkloric show. o/n hotel B/L/D JUNE 5-MONDAY CUSCO-PUERTO MALDONADO-TAMBOPATA RESERVE Flight to Puerto Maldonado. There, we'll board motorized boats for a journey down the river to the Tambopata Reserve in the Amazon Basin to start our rainforest adventure program. o/n jungle lodge B/L/D JUNE 6, 7, 8-TUES., WEDS., THURS. TAMBOPATA RESERVE Continue Rainforest program including visits to the claylicks, Tambopata Research Station and the tree platform for a birds eye view of the forest. B/L/D every day JUNE 9-FRIDAY TAMBOPATA-PUERTO MALDONADO-LIMA End our rainforest stay and fly to Lima. PM visit to Gold Museum. Tonight we gather for a very special farewell dinner of typical Peruvian food. o/n hotel?B/D JUNE 10-SATURDAY LIMA A city tour of Lima The afternoon is free or for those interested......the day can be spent flying over the Nazca Lines with lunch (additional fee).
