June 10 USA-Quito
Arrive in Quito in evening where we will be greeted and transferred to our charming small hotel.
June 11 Quito
Tour of Quito including the equatorial monument and the charming colonial old part of the city. o/n hotel B/L/D
June 12 Quito-Manta-Manabi
A short flight to the town of Manta. Enroute to our seaside hotel, we'll stop to visit the area where the first "Panama" hats were made and also visit a small town that crafts unique pottery. The afternoon is free to relax or kayak. o/n hotel B/L/D
June 13 Salango
Today we will paddle to Salango, filled with the burial grounds of Ecuador's most ancient cultures. As we paddle around the islet, we will stop to explore and relax on deserted beaches, as well as try snorkeling off shore. Here we can also observe Humpback whales. o/n hotel B/BxL/D
June 14 Isla de la Plata
We take a motorized boat to Isla de la Plata, also called Poor man's Galapagos. There we will observe Blue Footed Boobies, Red Footed Boobies, Tropical Birds, Albatross and Sea lions. We can also spend time hiking in the tropical forest upon our return. o/n hotel B/BxL/D
June 15 Alandaluz-Bahia de Caracuez
Heading north to Bahia de Caracuez where we will board a boat which takes us out into the bay where we enjoy lunch. Later we will take a short tour of the city . o/n hotel B/L/D
June 16 Bahia
The bay is rich with estuaries and today we will visit them and observe large flocks of many of the birds found in the Galapagos. Along the way, we will stop for an incredible meal on the waterfront. o/n hotel B/L/D
June 17 Bahia-Chirije
A short drive south will take us to Chirije, the site of archaeological excavation. We will meet with the onsite archaeologist for an introduction to the site. Our lodging will be in charming cabins on the site...with lovely views of the ocean. o/n Chirije B/L/D
June 18 Chirije
Today, get down & dirty as we dig with the archaeologist at the site. Later, there is time to hike in the dry tropical forest nearby or just relax on the beach. o/n Chirje B/L/D
June 19 Chirije-Sustainable Development Project
We leave our archaeological site and drive to our horses which we will ride to sustainable development project. There we will stay in cabins or a treehouse as we visit with the local Montubio people and learn about their culture. o/n cabins or treehouse B/L/D
June 20 SDP
Our day will be full as we visit the environmental school and participate in the local permaculture and farming techniques. Perhaps we'll learn to make an aloe mask to refresh us as we rest in our hammock or carve a gourd to be used as dinnerware. o/n cabins or treehouse B/L/D
June 21 Bahia
Today we leave the project and set out to visit the site of the first equatorial line. We also will visit the beautiful beach of Canoa before returning to Bahia for overnight. o/n hotel B/L/D
June 22 Bahia-Quito
We say goodbye to our hosts in Bahia as we transfer to the airport for our return flight to Quito. In Quito, overnight in hotel B/D
June 23 Quito-Otavalo
After a leisurely breakfast, we depart for Otavalo visiting some of the interesting villages enroute. We arrive at our charming hacienda in the afternoon and have time to hike, ride or just relax. o/n hacienda B/L/D
June 24 Otavalo-Quito
An early breakfast will get us vitalized to visit one of the largest indigenous markets in South America today and it will give everyone ample opportunity to buy gifts and souvenirs to take home. In the afternoon, we head back to Quito and our hotel. Tonight we gather for a farewell dinner. o/n hotel B/D
June 25 Quito-USA
Depart Quito for return home or add-on. B
